In response to a call for submissions on Bill 39, Aggregate Resources and Mining Modernization Act, CAMQ called for a broader awareness of the need for rural drinking water protection. The debates of March 2, 2017 contain a record of our presentation to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy. After reviewing the bill, CAMQ proposed that the word ‘municipal’ be removed from Bill 39, section 11, so that legislative changes could apply to all drinking water sources – rural and municipal alike. Our efforts were successful, and a motion went forth to incorporate this recommendation into the bill for its 3rd reading.
CAMQ continues to lobby for a safe and healthy community, with protections for rural drinking water supplies in Tyendinaga Township, and the Province of Ontario.
